Nicknamed “Korea’s President of Culture,” there are few artists as long-running in the K-pop game as Seo Taiji. He debuted in 1992 as the lead member of Seo Taiji and Boys, an act famous for their musical experimentation. The group dabbled in genres as diverse as electronica and hip-hop, releasing hits like “Come Back Home,” recorded years before any other Korean acts would attempt to make rap.

In the late 1990s, Seo went solo, pursuing an unexpectedly hard, Nu Metal-influenced rock sound, most evident on his hit “Internet War.”

Seo continued with his rock-influenced solo work before vanishing from the scene in 2009. Five years later, he reappeared, releasing the synth-heavy album “Quiet Night,” featuring the atmospheric hit “Sogyeokdong.”
